Sarfaraz Khan was expected to continue what he has been doing in the Ranji Trophy in Test cricket as well. In the third Test against England in the ongoing series, Khan made his debut and scored fifties in two innings.

But he couldn’t do much in the fourth Test in Ranchi. He managed just 14 runs and also registered his first golden duck.

In spite of his Ranchi innings, the 26-year-old earned praise from the greats of the game. He impressed former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who said the youngster is more suited to red-ball cricket.

Sarfaraz is more of a five-day player. His game is more suited to that. The amount of runs he scored in domestic cricket is phenomenal. And as they say, if you score runs in first-class cricket it doesn't go to waste and that's what happened to Sarfaraz.

Khan scored 4056 runs in 47 first-class matches, with 14 centuries and 13 fifties, at an average of 68.74.

From these matches, the Mumbai batters scored 1188 runs at an average of 22.41 and a strike rate of 128.29. His highest score in the format is 67.

Khan has played 50 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After making his debut in 2015, except for the 2017 season, he featured in all the IPL seasons.

After making his debut for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Khan was purchased by the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2019 auction. Last year, he played just four matches in the league. In total, he scored 585 runs in 50 matches at a strike rate of 130.58, and an average of 22.50. He went unsold in the auction for 2024 IPL.
