Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar doesn’t think the Indian team is the favorite to win the ODI World Cup despite being the hosts. He also can’t see Pakistan ticking all the boxes to emerge triumphant in the prestigious tournament. However, according to him, Jos Buttler-led England have the best team composition.

Gavaskar picked up England because their squad is filled with world-class players in all the departments, and praised England’s world-class batters, bowlers, and the match-winning all-rounders. “The defending champions, England, because of the kind of talent that they have at, at the top of the order, the batting order, they’ve got two or three world-class all-rounders who can change the game with both bat and ball. They’ve also got a very good bowling line-up, an experienced bowling line-up, so at the moment in my book certainly,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

England will start their campaign in the ODI World Cup on October 5 against the last edition’s runners-up New Zealand in Ahmedabad. In 2019, England defeated New Zealand in the final to become champions of the ODI World Cup for the first time in their history.

Sunil Gavaskar explains how India should include Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was not included in the original 15-member squad list. But he made a late entry to the squad when all-rounder Axar Patel suffered an injury.

Though Ashwin became a part of the squad, he may miss out on cementing his spot in the playing XI. But Gavaskar wants him to be a part of the playing XI to help India break partnerships in the middle order where Ashwin’s experience can help a lot.

India are scheduled to play their first match on October 5 in Chennai against Australia. Before that, they are playing two warm-up matches.
