Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, or also known as MCA Stadium or Gahunje Stadium, was established in 2012 and hosted its first international match in the same year. It was built to replace the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which hosted its last international match in 2005.
The stadium has hosted seven ODIs in eleven years, with the first ODI being played between India and Australia in 2013. It hosted its first match in 2012, when Sri Lanka played India in a T20I and the first Test match was played in the 2017 Border Gavaskar Trophy.
MCA Stadium is currently the home ground of the Maharashtra Cricket Team. It used to be the home ground of IPL team Pune Warriors India, until they were dissolved in 2013. Rising Pune Supergiant then used the stadium, but only played there for one out of two seasons. Chennai Super Kings also played their home games in the MCA Stadium during the 2018 IPL. Kings XI Punjab also played 3 games in the 2015 IPL. During the 2022 IPL it was one of the three venues of the group stages.
The stadium was originally called “Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium”, after Sahara Group bought the naming rights. After not receiving payments, they changed their name back to MCA Stadium. It was supposed to be a venue in the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup, but due to delay in construction it wasn’t possible.
