The Pakistan Cricket Team had a lot of issues in obtaining their Indian visas. They were the last team that was participating in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup to receive their visas, which they had gotten barely 48 hours before leaving Pakistan. Unfortunately, Pakistani fans and media are also suffering the same issues.
An official from the Pakistan Cricket Board told SportStar that there has been no word about their visas so far and are still awaiting the Indian government to clear the visas. The PCB had also written an article to the International Cricket Council regarding the visa delay.
Due to the Pakistani media not being on Indian soil, a Whatsapp group was formed by the ICC Media Manager for these journalists. As they couldn’t be a part of the press conference of Pakistan’s first match of the ODI World Cup, the questions were sent to the group and then asked by the ICC Media Manager.
Pakistan played Netherlands without any fans or media from Pakistan
When Pakistan played their first match of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup in the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium Hyderabad, there was only one Pakistani Fan in the stadium to support them. Mohammad Bashir, also known as Bashir Chacha, resides in Chicago and received his ticket from a member of the Pakistan Cricket Team.
Apart from Bashir Chacha, there was no other Pakistan fan in the stadium to support them. Due to the visa delay, many fans and journalists were unable to travel to India. The Pakistan team plays their next match on the 10th of October against Sri Lanka. It is not sure if Pakistan fans will be able to attend that match as well due to the delay in visas.
