“Jaan laga do ab!”- Pakistan fans overjoyed as the Netherlands upset South Africa to keep the Men in Green’s hopes alive
Netherlands beat South Africa by 13 runs
The Netherlands do not leave the tournament without causing major upset. When South Africa were playing their last game of Super 12s, hoping to easily qualify for the semi-final, it was then the Dutch produced some excellent cricket to knock out the Proteas from the T20 World Cup 2022, on Sunday [November 6] at the Adelaide Oval.
India gained a place in the semi-final berth automatically after South Africa’s defeat. Even if they lose their last match against Zimbabwe today, it won’t affect them much. They are on the top with six points in Group 2 of Super 12.
But India is not the only country celebrating after the Proteas’ defeat; their neighbour Pakistan have also rejuvenated their semi-final hopes. The winner of the knockout match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be the fourth team to qualify for the semi-final.
Both Pakistan and Bangladesh have four points each and they’ll face today in the second match of the day. Three teams that have already reached the spot are- New Zealand, England, and India.
Meanwhile, India will still remain on top if they beat Zimbabwe in their last match. They will face England in the second semi-final at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. If India lose the match against Zimbabwe, they’ll face New Zealand in the first semi-final in Sydney on Wednesday.
Coming to the match, Netherlands batted first and put on 158/4 in 20 overs after Colin Ackermann’s quickfire of an unbeaten 41 runs off 26 balls. Tim Cooper also produced 35 runs from 19 balls, while Stephan Myburgh scored 37 off 30 balls.
South Africa kept losing wickets in regular intervals. Big names like Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Rilee Russouw faltered in front of the Dutch’s bowling attack. In what a major upset for the Proteas, they fell short by 13 runs in the end.
