In the past few weeks, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi interacted with fans online. They used their X (formerly Twitter) accounts, conducting Q&As. Both sessions got a combined 24,000 viewers online, which has upset the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
According to a report by Times of India, the PCB is unhappy with the Q&A sessions. They are afraid that such sessions could lead to controversies which the PCB wants to avoid. The board have already started reviewing the contracts with the players due to the sessions.
The PCB will look to revisit some of the clauses that the centrally contracted players need to adhere to. The clauses covering the social media activities of contracted players are now being reviewed again by the board because it is concerned such public Q and A sessions could result in unnecessary controversies. Naqvi clearly wants a revised media policy for players and for this the PCB could revise some clauses of the central contracts.PCB source (via TOI)
The PCB recently got their newest Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. He has been elected for three years, replacing Zaka Ashraf who had resigned a few months ago.
Shaheen Afridi calls South African legend as toughest batter to bowl to
During Shaheen Shah’s Q&A sessions with fans, the Pakistan captain was asked who the toughest batter to bowl to was. Many expected answers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith, Joe Root or even his national teammate, Babar Azam.
Instead he called Hashim Amla as the toughest batter to bowl to. The two played against each other in two Tests and five ODIs, where the pacer picked up only two wickets.
Recently appointed as the new T20I captain of Pakistan, Afrdi led the Men in Green during their tour of New Zealand. The team managed only one win out of the five T20Is they played. The Pakistan team will now tour England in May before the 2024 ICC T20I World Cup.
