Players auction list announced for IPL 2023

The player’s list for the auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has been released. After shortlisting the list of the registered 991 players, the number of players to go under the hammer is 405. But initially, 369 cricketers were chosen by the 10 franchises, while 36 players were added as per the request by teams.

Out of the 405 players, 273 are Indians, 132 are foreign and four are from associate nations. The number of capped players is 119, while the uncapped is 282, and four are from associate nations. A total of 30 overseas players will fill up the 87 slots.

Also, 19 overseas players have registered their names at INR 2 crore, while 11 players have signed up with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Among the list of the 20 players- who have listed their names with a base price of INR 1 crore- two Indian faces are Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarawal.

Meanwhile, the auction is slated to take place at 2:30 IST on December 23 in Kochi. Star Sports and Disney+Hotstar have got the broadcast and streaming rights for the auction.

Talking about the retained players’ list, a total of 163 were retained, whereas 85 are released from their existing squads. The remaining auction pool for the teams is INR 206.5 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have the highest auction purse of Rs 42.25 after they released the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have the smallest purse with Rs 7.05 crore remaining.

KKR traded Aman Khan to the Delhi Capitals (DC) and traded in Shardul Thakur from DC. KKR also traded in New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson and Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz from the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT).

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) released Kieron Pollard. Pollard served the MI for 12 years, and following an ordinary show in IPL 2022 after being retained for Rs 6 crore ahead of last season’s mega auction, MI released him.

They have traded-in Aussie left-arm pacer Jason Behrendroff from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) released Dwyane Bravo, while Punjab Kings (PBKS) sacked Mayank Agarwal as captain and handed the leadership role to Shikhar Dhawan. CSK, RR, and RCB haven’t traded in any players.
