Powerhouse India is the only country currently which is now occupying the top two spots in ICC rankings across all the formats. After whitewashing New Zealand 3-0 on Tuesday, India, who previously stood at No.3 leaped to the top with 114 points, by replacing England who had reached the top after New Zealand’s loss to India in the second ODI. This is also India’s second consecutive clean sweep; they previously whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0.

Chasing the target, Devon Conway (138 off 100 balls) stitched crucial stands, but Shardul Thakur (3/45) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/62) kept giving regular breakthroughs. Soon, the Kiwis got bundled out for 295 in 41.2 overs. Shardul was awarded the Player of the Match, while Gill took the Player of the Series trophy for amassing 360 runs in the three-match series.

Before the third match, India, England, and New Zealand had been tied on 113 points. And after Tuesday’s result, Team India is followed by England (113 points); Australia moved up into third place with 112 points, while New Zealand dropped to fourth place with 111 points. If England defeat South Africa in their upcoming ODI series, then they will replace India.

Also, India has now become the best white-ball nation. In T20Is also, the Men in Blue are occupying the first spot. But in Test cricket, they are in the second position, behind Australia. India will be locking horns with Pat Cummins and Co. in the upcoming four-match Gavaskar-Border Trophy, starting February 9. In all possibilities, Rohit Sharma’s men will be playing the World Test Championship Final against Australia.
