Since 2019 , Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has represented Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He was bought in the auction for Rs. 1.2 crores and has played for the franchise for 5 seasons, scoring 1694 runs in 71 innings. After a poor 2023 IPL, it has been reported that the Delhi based franchise are looking to release him.
Prithvi Shaw had a below average 2023 IPL, scoring only 106 runs in 8 innings, with his highest score being 54. Despite strong performances in the Royal London One-Day Cup, where he scored 429 runs in 4 matches, before pulling out of the tournament due to a torn PCL, the franchise will let him go.

Shaw is also going to miss a majority of the Indian Domestic Season due to his injury, which will see him on the sidelines till January at least. He is undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy, trying to ensure he’s available for the Ranji Trophy. Despite his injury concerns, Shaw has confirmed he will return to England to play for Northamptonshire in 2024.
Fans want Prithvi Shaw to come home
After the news of Prithvi Shaw being released broke out, many Mumbai Indians fans on X expressed their wishes of bringing the 24-year-old Mumbaikar to his city’s franchise. Many others suggested he should move to Sunrisers Hyderabad or Royal Challengers Bangalore. Some DC fans were unhappy with the news, believing that their team was making a big mistake.

The 2024 IPL Auction will be held on 19th December in Mumbai. While there has been no confirmation of Shaw being released, all teams will release their retained players on 26th November and that will confirm Shaw’s situation.
