Prithvi Shaw was once touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He led the Under-19 team to glory and slammed a century on his first Test debut. But for the past two years, he hasn’t featured in a match for the Men in Blue despite his domestic exploits and performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 23-year-old will travel to the United Kingdom to feature for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. And due to this, he would have to skip the Deodhar Trophy. In an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz and Wisden, Shaw talked about various topics, including his mental health struggles.
Shaw said he likes to be in his own zone despite the outside noise from people. “I don’t have friends, I don’t like to make friends. This is what’s happening with this generation. You can’t share your thoughts with anyone else,” he told Cricbuzz.
Shaw feels going through this is very scary and he gets afraid to even share his thoughts and that despite having few friends, he doesn’t share everything with them. The youngster also expressed how disappointed he is with people who get friendly with him but say things behind his back. In April this year, Shaw made headlines not due to his on-field exploits in domestic cricket but an ugly fight with influencer Sapna Gill.

Prithvi Shaw says he didn’t know the reason why he was dropped from Indian Team
In the same interview, he revealed that he had no idea why he was dropped from the Indian side. He thought the reason must be fitness but he said though he had cleared all the fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, he still did not get the chance for the West Indies series.
He also talked about his ultimate goal in life- to lift the World Cup for India. For this, Shaw said, he is trying to work hard and score runs. Meanwhile, in five Tests and six ODIs, Shaw has scored 339 and 189 runs respectively.
