“Publicly give a friendly warning at once to ALL the batters with 1 tweet”- Tabraiz Shamsi rubbishes ‘friendly warning’ to non-strikers before mankadding
Tabraiz Shamsi
Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi is quite vocal about his supporting mankading, the dismissal which is one of the most controversial rules in this sport. Despite MCC’s approval of it as a fair run-out, the cricket fraternity’s views are still unsupported.
India women cricketer Deepti Sharma’s run out to Charlie Dean in the third T20I at the Lord’s sparked a heated argument on this dismissal. Dean was the last batter and was the only hope for England until Deepti left all in confusion when she shattered the bails at the non-striker’s end.
During the first match between Namibia and Sri Lanka in the ICC T20 World Cup, a journalist took to Twitter and wrote: “The opportunity is there for any Namibian bowler to run out Bhanuka Rajapaksa at the non-striker’s end. He’s leaving his non-striker’s crease even before the bowler gets past the umpire… More than a full yard out by the point of delivery.”
Shamsi took a dig at that journalist by saying how only a tweet can warn every batter to not leave their crease early.
“People always say there should atleast be a friendly warning given first right? Are we allowed to publicly give a friendly warning at once to ALL the batters in the world who leave their crease early with 1 tweet?” wrote Shamsi.
“Just to avoid the drama that follows after a runout like that [ending tweet with a question emoji].”

“If bowlers have to keep their foot behind the line, batsmen should do the same as well”- Tabraiz Shamsi
Regarding Deepti Sharma‘s run-out to Charlie Dean, Tabraiz Shamsi openly supported Deepti saying he didn’t see any controversy in it.
“My views have been quite public. If bowlers have to keep their foot behind the line, batsmen should do the same as well,” Shamsi told reporters ahead of the first T20I against India in Thiruvananthapuram.
“Rules are there and I don’t see any controversy in it. Both sides should play fair,” he added.
In 2021 also, replying to Brad Hogg‘s post, Shamsi wrote: “Mankad…Mankad and keep on mankadding until batsmen learn to stay behind the line just like bowlers have to keep their foot behind the line while bowling
And is in the heat of the moment, somewhere down the line if I end up STEALING a few yards as a nonstriker MANKAD ME TOO!”
