Needless to say, Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill is a rising star and has already started creating batting records in international cricket. Hailed as ‘Prince’, Gill has impressed many with his performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and has improved a lot on his game since his debut season in 2018.

In IPL 2023, the 23-year-old has collected 722 runs from 15 matches, at a strike rate of 149.17, including two centuries and four fifties. He even became the fourth player in the history of IPL to smash two consecutive centuries, 101 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and 104* against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

In that match between RCB and GT, even the former’s Virat Kohli smacked his seventh IPL ton, also his back-to-back one after smashing his first ton of IPL 2023 against SRH. But it was Gill’s knock that ended the hosts’ campaign from IPL 2023 in Bengaluru. Punjab player Gurkeerat Singh Mann, who played three ODI matches for India in 2016, revealed that the morning after Gill’s second ton, he worked hard in the gym.

I asked him what’s his plan for the morning, and he said ‘Paaji, I am going to the gym’. You can see the work ethic,” Gurkeerat told Indian Express. “Most of the time, if a match ends late, players will sleep for an extra couple of hours, but not Shubman. He was off to the gym at 8 am. He knows the work is only half done. He wants to perform more and score more. The fire in the belly never allows him to lower his guard,” Gurkeerat added.

Gurkeerat then added that Shubman Gill watches his batting videos after every match, no matter how much he scores, to analyze his dismissal and work on those things in the nets. “He will work on those things in the nets for hours and if you will ask him ‘Shubhi, let’s go; it’s been more than two hours, he will reply, ‘The full ball has troubled me today; please stay for a while‘”.

Meanwhile, Gill scored 42 off 38 balls with four boundaries and a six against Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 1. Only he scored the most for the Titans while other batters flopped. CSK won the match by defending 173 and bowling out GT for 157, winning the match by 15 runs to reach another IPL final.
