“Sack Dravid!”- Rahul Dravid faces fans’ fury after India’s devastating semi-final exit
Rahul Dravid faces fans' fury after India's devastated semi-final exit
After Jos Buttler and Alex Hales outclassed India by 10 wickets, World Cup-hungry fans started slamming India head coach Rahul Dravid on Twitter. During the much-awaited semi-final clash against England, India’s dull performance with the ball failed to break the outlandish 170-run partnership between the English opening duo.
India’s posted 168/6 owing to Hardik Pandya‘s cameo in the last overs and Virat Kohli’s slow fifty runs. Other than these two, the openers- KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma failed with their bats. When Suryakumar Yadav was getting into the mood of smacking the English attack, he was shown a way back to the dugout.
Nothing happened during England’s chase other than Buttler and Hales’ butchering the opponent bowlers. In no time, England completed the target to knock the Men in Blue out of the T20 World Cup 2022
India had started their campaign in style by beating Pakistan by four wickets in a thriller. Apart from the defeat against South Africa, India had comfortably won their other matches. But as they reached the semi-final and displayed a dull show to end their stint in the marquee event, they’ll prepare for the next year’s ODI World Cup.
Following the defeat, head coach Rahul Dravid explained how India lost the match. “We tried to attack a little bit with our lengths up front,” Dravid explained in the post-match press conference. “The ball didn’t swing here probably as much as it has in other parts of Australia or in other conditions. Played a little bit into their hands, and class players like that, both Buttler and Hales, I thought their partnership was fantastic today.
“I think they just put the pressure on us, never let that go, and even when our spinners came on on a wicket that we thought we might be able to control the game, they really counterattacked our spinners, as well, and put our spinners under a lot of pressure,” he added.
