Rahul Dravid is set to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a mentor if he does not extend his contract as Team India head coach, as per several reports. Dravid’s tenure as India’s head coach ended with the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup on November 19.

According to the reports, Dravid is in talks with LSG and an announcement will soon be made regarding the same. It will depend on whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) manages to convince Dravid to remain as head coach.

Dravid took the responsibility of head coach by replacing Ravi Shastri after India’s early exit from the 2021 T20 World Cup. Under his tutelage, India won the 2023 Asia Cup and reached the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal, World Test Championships (WTC) final and the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Notably, Gautam Gambhir, who was LSG’s mentor for two seasons (2022 and 2023) has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their mentor for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gambhir led the team from the City of Joy to two trophies in 2012 and 2014.

Who will be India’s head coach if Rahul Dravid doesn’t extend his contract?

Rahul Dravid is unlikely to remain as India’s head coach and everything will be sorted after his meeting with the BCCI. Reports say Dravid wants to spend time with his family and constant traveling with Team India won’t allow that, which is why he wants to coach an IPL team for two months.

To fill the vacant spot, the current National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief and Dravid’s former teammate VVS Laxman is likely to take up the role. Laxman is already coaching Team India for the five-match T20I series against Australia which started a couple of days after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
