The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the contract of Rahul Dravid as head coach but is yet to decide his tenure. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah gave an update on the same, saying the decision will be made after the South Africa series, starting December 10.
Dravid joined Team India in 2021 following India’s T20 World Cup exit and under his tutelage, the Men in Blue tasted a lot of success but not the ultimate ones. Rohit Sharma and Co. reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the finals of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the 2023 ODI World Cup. The only trophy that came during his tenure was the 2023 Asia Cup victory.
The Wall’s coaching duties will start from today when India and South Africa will lock horns for three T20Is, with the first starting today in Durban, followed by three ODIs, and two Tests. It’s after this series that the BCCI will decide the duration of his coaching stint for the national side. He may likely continue till the T20 World Cup in June next year.
The length of Rahul Dravid's tenure as India's head coach is to be decided after the team returns from South Africa.Jay Shah is quoted as saying by PTI
We have given the extension, but we have yet to finalize the contract. We did not get time at all, they finished (with the World Cup). I had a meeting with them (Dravid and other coaching staff) and we agreed mutually that they would continue.
