In 2010, Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir was caught in a match-fixing scandal. The then 18-year-old had bowled two deliberate no-balls during a Test match against England. After being caught and declared guilty, Amir served a 5-year ban and returned to the sport.

Five years after returning to cricket, Mohammad Amir announced that he was retiring. He claimed the Pakistani Cricket Board didn’t treat him well and hence he made the decision to retire. Now the pacer has decided that he wants to return to play for Pakistan.

While some are excited for Amir to return, the move has not fallen well with Ramiz Raja. Raja, who used to be the chairman of the PCB, said he was the commentator when Amir was fixing. He claimed fans criticized him for identifying the fixers, and it is something he could never forget.

Cricket is black and white, there are no gray areas. The cricket fraternity relies on 200 players. This isn't a society, where we can let a person return to their normal lives after serving his punishment. If there is any tainted cricketer, they are expelled. Sure, I might feel bad for them, but I can’t ever forgive them. If he was my son, I would disown him.

They both are senior and experienced players; their presence will strengthen the Pakistan cricket team, and young cricketers will learn from them.

Currently, the two are at an Army camp in Kakul held by the PCB. It consists of 30-probables for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Pakistan team will first play a T20I series against New Zealand and then tour England and Ireland in preparation for the World Cup.
