India youngster Shubman Gill was seen struggling during the two-match West Indies Test series. He used to open innings for India prior to this series but when the Indian management dropped veteran Cheteshwar Pujara, Gill approached coach Rahul Dravid and told him he will come to bat at the No.3 position.
In place of Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also made his debut in the series, opened the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma. The close watchers of the game were excited to see Gill batting at No.3. Ravichandran Ashwin with the ball, and the top-order batsmen with the bat starred in the series. But unfortunately, in all the innings Gill batted, he could muster just six, 10, and 29* runs.
Reacting to a below-par performance of Gill as a No.3 batter, former India pacer Zaheer Khan gave him just four points out of 10. He also suggested that Gill needs to reset his mindset on batting at No.3 as he used to open the innings previously.
“I have given four out of 10. Just keeping that five as an average benchmark. And then you have below-average series and then you have above-average series,” Zaheer said on JioCinema.

Shubman Gill is the leading run-scorer in ODIs for India
Shubman Gill undoubtedly will try to improve himself as a No.3 batter in Tests. And eyes will be on him when he will walk onto the field next time in whites.
Though his Test numbers were not that great this year, his ODI numbers are. He is the leading run-scorer for India in ODIs with 624 runs from nine matches. He has already scored one double century, two centuries, and one half-century. He will next don the ODI jersey in the first ODI against West Indies on Thursday (July 27) at the Kensington Oval Barbados.
