Former India head coach Ravi Shastri talked about what he will do in a situation where two people do not like each other. He was asked a question directly related to the Virat Kohli Sourav Ganguly saga which started with videos circulating on social media about their not shaking hands with each other.

Several incidents during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have sparked controversy. At first, videos surfaced online that Kohli, while fielding near the boundary, gave a ‘death stare’ to Ganguly sitting in the DC dugout. Then after the match, Ganguly did not shake hands with Kohli and vice versa happened, the video of which also grabbed eyeballs.

On the next day, several reports claimed Kohli unfollowed Ganguly on Instagram after the ‘handshake snub’. Then another video emerged on the internet where Ganguly could be seen ignoring Kohli who was sitting in the RCB dugout moments before entering the field to bat. And as Ganguly walked by, Kohli could be seen giving a long stare to him. On the same day, reports claimed Ganguly also unfollowed Kohli on the Meta-owed app.

Without taking names, the interviewer asked Ravi Shastri about the Kohli-Ganguly matter by naming the two as X and Y respectively and that they “do not like each other now,” plus by mentioning all that happened between them in recent times.

Shastri said no matter what the situation, there should always be room to grow up. “Depends on what my relationship is. If I don’t want to talk, I’ll just go past. But at the end of it, when you go and sit down, you feel that there’s always some room to grow up, no matter how old you are,” Shastri said during an interview on ESPNCricinfo.

The saga between two former captains started when Kohli was removed from ODI captaincy in 2021. Though Ganguly claimed he had asked Kohli to think before relinquishing T20 captaincy, the latter denied the same in a controversial press conference. And later, Kohli stepped down from Test captaincy as well.
