Former India head coach Ravi Shastri doesn’t usually mince his words while stating bold opinions. In a recent interview, by observing the current situation, he suggested to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to move on from senior stars like India captain Rohit Sharma and ex-India captain Virat Kohli and select youngsters for T20Is.
The reason behind this can be these players’ inconsistent performance and at the same time, the young talents’ breathtaking game. The next T20 World Cup is in 2024 and Shastri wanted the management to not waste time and select these youngsters for the T20Is.
“Virat and Rohit are right where Sachin, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav, and Laxman were,” Shastri told ESPNCricinfo’s Runorder show when he was asked about the selection of youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Jitesh Sharma. “If Virat and Rohit do not rule themselves out of T20, then it is up to form, one year is a long time. You will pick the best guys at that time, and then of course experience will also count, fitness will count,” Shastri added.
Shastri opined that the management should keep players like Rohit and Kohli fresh for the ODIs and Test cricket and ensuring they are not playing too much cricket, and at the same time, keep giving chances to the youngsters to inculcate confidence and authority. The 1983 World Cup winner suggested that the BCCI should play the raw talents in the coming T20Is to expose them.

Ravi Shastri makes another bold statement regarding the selection process
The ex-India head coach wants to see the selection meeting live. Prior to this interview, he had previously revealed that despite being the head coach, he was never invited to a selection meeting.
“It is my dream to see a live selection meeting. Can you imagine the box office when a selection meeting is happening, where a selector is accountable? It is not that far, it will happen if you want transparency. They can even sell the broadcast rights for the selection meetings as well, why not?” Shastri added.
