India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin talked about the poor state of affairs in the West Indies. Ashwin recently played the two-match Test series against West Indies and observed that the infrastructure there was not up to the international standard.

Ashwin was not a part of India’s ODI squad when they played three matches against West Indies. He is also not representing the Hardik Pandya-led side for the five-match T20I series against the same team.

Pandya had criticized West Indies’ inability to make basic arrangements for the team after the conclusion of the third ODI. And now Ashwin also echoed the same, saying if things are not improved in time, then West Indies will fail to produce quality cricketers. Ashwin did not mince his words while saying that the infrastructure did not develop in those islands that form West Indies.

We played at the Barbados Test Center. While we practiced in the nets, there was no grass left on the surface. Their nets looked too old. I am not saying these things to blame them or anything. I actually feel bad for them,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Stressing on the same subject of West Indies’ poor state, Ravichandran Ashwin said that the West Indies Cricket board is maintaining the pitches in the name of maintaining by only cutting grass and rolling it. He feels the local players will find it difficult to adjust in other countries because they practice in slower conditions in West Indies. Ashwin said the pitches in West Indies have become slower and a lot of things is needs to be done to maintain them.

Talking about the series, India won the two-match Test series 1-0 and the three-match ODI series 2-1. The five-match T20I series has not yet concluded but it’s the host team who are leading by 2-0. The third T20I will start at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Tuesday (August 8).
