Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has come out on top over its nemesis, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in an interesting competition. While CSK and MI hold a better win record on the field over RCB, the Bengaluru-based franchise has defeated the two champion teams in an off-field antic. RCB has come out on top in terms of most interactions on Instagram.

As the data for the top 5 most popular sports teams in the world ranked by total interactions on Instagram during March 2023 was released by a sports management company, Deportes&Finanzas, RCB was the second on the overall list CSK and MI were fourth and fifth on the list respectively.

The Spanish football club, FC Barcelona was the most popular sports team in March 2023 with 198 million interactions on Instagram. Meanwhile, RCB pipped Real Madrid to occupy the second spot. The Bengaluru-based franchise managed to garner 157 million interactions on Instagram. CSK and MI, on the other hand, garnered 144 million and 123 million interactions on the photo-sharing platform.

While RCB managed to pip Mumbai and Chennai in terms of social media engagement, the franchise is yet to crack the code where it can beat CSK. There was a chance to turn fortunes around when the two teams met on Monday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium but RCB could not as if it was not meant to be.

The MS Dhoni-led team beat Faf du Plessis and Co. by eight runs in a high-scoring thriller. While many RCB fans were happy that their team was in the hunt till the very last over, many could not believe that the team lost from a winning position. Notably, RCB needed 36 runs off 20 balls when Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed were going strong.

However, the two batters got out in quick succession and CSK just tightened the grip from thereon.
