Almost every cricket fan was taken by surprise when Elon Musk’s social media platform X deactivated the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) account on Saturday. Although their account is back up now, fans were quick to notice that the page simply didn’t exist.
Royal Challengers Bangalore has been playing in the IPL since its inception in 2008. Plenty of stars such as Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Vettori, etc have played for the franchise. But in the 16 years of participating in the tournament, RCB has failed to lift the trophy even a single time. They finished as runners-up in 2009, 2011 and 2016. They have reached the playoffs 8 times as well.
RCB joined Twitter in 2009 and since then has gotten 6.8 million followers. The account is back now though, with a couple of fans asking what was the reason they got suspended.

RCB’s account getting deactivated got massive traction from the fans. The platform was filled with reactions with most of the users mocking the franchise. A user took a dig at RCB’s empty trophy cabinet as he wrote, “Today is World’s Trophy Day, and RCB’s @/RCBtweets got deactivated. Coincidence?” to which plenty of fans started their banter.
Now RCB’ X account is back, but the reason behind the deactivation is not revealed yet. Nevertheless, RCB fans will be happy that the franchise is back on the platform.
