Rinku Singh, after sensational matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has earned his India call up for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. He is also included in the squad for the upcoming Asian Games.

I told Papa that you can relax now. But he is still hawking cylinders. He still loves that job. At one level, I understand his part also. If he starts relaxing at home, he will get bored instantly. If someone has worked all his life, it is difficult to tell him to stop unless he wants,” he said in an interaction with PTI.

Rinku used to work with his father and brother, by hawking cylinders. His ambition to become a cricketer made him turn down a government job as a sweeper. Later, he played for Uttar Pradesh in 2014. In the IPL, the 25-year-old was picked up by the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) for the first time in 2017. In 2018, he started representing the KKR.

KKR were playing against Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) for the first time in IPL 2023. GT, with Vijay Shankar’s 63* off 24 and Sai Sudharsan’s 53 off 38, scored 204/4 in their 20 overs.

Somehow KKR, with Venkatesh Iyer‘s 83 and Nitish Nara’s 45 crossed 170. Suddenly, they needed 28 runs off five balls. Things looked pretty one-sided and the waters of the game were foreseeing a comfortable win for Hardik Pandya and Company.

But Rinku Singh smashed a six and went on to smash four more sixes off consecutive balls in the last over to help his side win the match by three wickets. Now, as he will present the Men in Blue, he will be under scanner; as Indian management is also looking for a finisher in the team in white-ball cricket.
