On Monday, India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant took to Twitter for the first time since his car crash last year in December. In a series of tweets, Pant wrote how thankful he is for all the help he received from the doctors, physios, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“I am humbled and grateful for all the support and good wishes. I am glad to let you know that my surgery was a success. The road to recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the @BCCI, @JayShah & government authorities for their incredible support,” Pant wrote on Twitter.
He also thanked the two men who took the 25-year-old to a nearby hospital. “I may not have been able to thank everyone individually, but I must acknowledge these two heroes who helped me during my accident and ensured I got to the hospital safely. Rajat Kumar & Nishu Kumar, Thank you. I’ll be forever grateful and indebted.”
Rishabh Pant can miss the 2023 ODI World Cup in India
On the 30th of December last year, Pant was on his way to meet his family in Roorkee from Delhi. He was driving alone and reportedly, he fell asleep and his Mercedes crashed into a divider around 5:30 am before it got burnt completely. However, Pant somehow got out of the car, and with the help of Nishu Kumar and Rajat Kumar, he was taken to Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre before being shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun.
Then Pant was airlifted from Dehradun to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai for surgery on his ligament. His surgery has been successful and he has been under the supervision of Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the head of the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director of Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service.
He is recovering but how long it will take is still uncertain. According to medical experts, Pant, who has sustained two knee ligaments injury is likely to miss out on most fixtures this year. Team India is surely miss Pant when it will take on Australia in February. He can also miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well as the 2023 ODI World Cup which is slated to take place in October-November in India.
