Robin Uthappa, one of Indian Premier League‘s most aggressive batters, called it quits on his career in Indian cricket on Wednesday, September 14. The swashbuckling star represented a total of six franchises in IPL and lifted the trophy twice- in 2014 while representing Kolkata Knight Riders and with Chennai Super Kings in 2021.

Notwithstanding his not so great performance in international cricket, he was one of the marquee players in IPL. He mustered up 4952 runs from 205 games at 27.51 and a strike rate of 130.35.

Now that he has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket, let’s have a look at his top five knocks in the cash-rich league.

80* off 58 (KKR vs CSK) in 2015

KKR bowlers were able to limit CSK to a decent total of 165. However, KKR were tethering at 57/3 with the wickets of skipper Gautam Gambhir, Manish Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav.

Uthappa was the opener and after three wickets, he was joined by Andre Russell. Uthappa ended up scoring an unbeaten 80 runs, helping his team steer towards the win.

87 off 47 (KKR vs RPS) in 2017

Rising Pune Supergiants had put up 182/5 and in KKR’s chase, West Indies star Sunil Narine was batting at the top so Uthappa was made the middle-order batter. After Narine’s run out, Uthappa walked onto the field and a 158-run partnership with Gambhir saw their team winning the match with 11 balls to spare. Uthappa’s 87 runs off 47 balls also included seven fours and six sixes.

68* off 38 (RCB vs CSK) in 2010

Batting at No. 3, Uthappa was running out of partners, could score a mere 19 runs off 23 balls but that was before 16th over. He smashed 49 runs off the next 15 balls and RCB’s score, which read 110/4 in 16 overs looked 171/5, which the Super Kings couldn’t chase. Uthappa was awarded with the Player of the Match with his match-winning knock.

88 off 50 (CSK vs RCB) in 2022

Uthappa was roped in by the Yellow franchise in 2021 and he played a crucial role behind the their road to the fourth title. Next year, CSK were struggling at 36/2 and Uthappa joined Shivam Dube and from the start, the former played aggressively. 156 runs were made in 10 overs with Uthappa’s highest score in IPL. His 50-ball 88 and Dube’s 95 steered CSK’s first win of the season after a couple of losses.

51 off 21 (RCB vs KXIP) in 2010

Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a flying start with openers Manish Mandey and Jacques Kallis’s 74-run stand. The show went on to be more exhilarating once Uthappa entered the field. It was one of the fine matches one watches in the cash-rich league. He smashed the fastest fifty in that tournament with a 21-ball 51 runs with four boundaries and same number of sixes.
