India captain Rohit Sharma is one of the most explosive white-ball batters in the world right now. It wasn’t the case when he was a rookie cricketer. But after former India captain MS Dhoni‘s move of promoting Rohit to open innings for India, the 36-year-old’s career skyrocketed and now he is on the threshold of breaking Chris Gayle‘s record of most sixes in international cricket.

Rohit has smacked 539 sixes from 446 matches and stands second on the list. Gayle tops the list with 553 sixes from 483 matches. In all possibilities, Rohit is going to surpass the Caribbean legend this year.

Rohit spoke about the unique record he is going to create by securing the top position. He said that he had never thought of breaking Gayle’s record one day.

It will be a unique record if I manage to break that. I never thought that I would be able to break Chris Gayle’s record one day (laughs). It’s funny but okay,” Rohit said in an interview with Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel. The India captain also has clobbered 182 sixes in T20Is and 280 maximums in the ODIs. In T20Is, he stands top while in ODIs, he is third on the list.
