Know the 5 records Ruturaj Gaikwad broke in his epic knock of 220* runs
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad broke a series of records following his epic knock of an unbeaten 220 runs off 159 balls against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 on Monday (November 28) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His knock drove the team’s score to 330/5.
He smashed 16 sixes and 10 fours, out of which nine sixes came off the last two overs. Shiva Singh bowled the penultimate over but he was the unfortunate one as Gaikwad slammed seven sixes. The reason he was able to send seven balls over the boundary and not six is due to a no-ball off the fifth delivery.

Maharashtra overtook Kerala which held the record of 35 runs off an over bowled by Hyderabad’s Ravi Teja in the tournament (2009/10) in Chennai. Gaikwad set his name down on the record book by scoring 42 runs. An extra run off the no-ball makes it 43 in an over.
3. Most runs by a batter in List-A matches off an over
Gaikwad’s name is at the top on the most number of runs by a batter- 42 off an over. The players who held the previous record are- Elton Chigumbura, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Thisara Perera, and Jaskaran Malhotra. These players have scored 36 runs in an over.
4. Highest runs scored in List-A for Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s Ankit Bawne scored 184 runs off 143 balls last week against Puducherry in Ranchi. But Gaikwad’s knock superseded Bawne’s as the former scored 220* off 159 balls. His double ton also makes him the 11th batter to do so in List-A cricket and for Maharashtra.
5. Most sixes by a batter in a match of Vijay Hazare Trophy
Gaikwad smashed 16 sixes, which is the most by a batter in a match of the tournament. But in List-A cricket, he became the second player after Rohit Sharma to do so. The Indian skipper had played a 209-run knock against Australia in 2013 which was studded with 16 sixes.
