Kuch saal wo mere baaju mei baitha hi nahi (For a few years, he never sat next to me). We started sitting next to each other later. I didn’t know that he was so shy and that’s why he used to switch his seats.

The BCCI offered me captaincy in 2007, but my body was in terrible shape. My observation of MS Dhoni was very good. His mind is very stable, he’s calm, he’s instinctive, and makes the right decisions. I recommended him for the captaincy.

Dhoni first captained the Indian side in the 2007 T20 World Cup and won it. Four years later, he led India to their first World Cup in 28 years and then won the Champions Trophy in 2013. He stepped down in 2017 after winning all available ICC trophies.
