“Want to see Sam Curran back for CSK”-Sam Curran’s fifer propels Surrey to top spot in Vitality Blast after beating Hampshire
Sam Curran
In the match between Surrey versus Hampshire, the former’s all-rounder Sam Curran’s outing helped the team climb to the top spot in the South Group. Surrey defeated Hampshire by 72 runs on Thursday, June 2 at The Oval.
Choosing to bowl first, Hampshire started well with their bowling but couldn’t stop the trio of Will Jacks, Sam Curran and Sunil Narine. Their match-defining partnership helped the team reach 228/4 in 20 overs. The 23-year-old had put on a 131 partnership for second wicket. Will Jack scored 64 runs from 36 balls with five sixes, also his second fifty in this season. While Sunil Narine scored 52 from 23 balls. The three had smashed 14 sixes in total and Laurie Evans smashed another two in his 25 not out.
Sam Curran scored the highest run with his 69 runs off 38 balls and then bagged five wickets by conceding 30 runs. The total by Surrey in this match is the second highest total in their T20 history. Also, it’s their highest total at the Kia Oval for seven years.
Hampshire’s start wasn’t good at all when they lost Nick Gubbins for a duck. But a partnership of 55 runs revived the innings. But in no time, Hampshire’s scoreboard read 67/6, all due to Sam Curran’s fifer. Even after a fighting knock at the end from James Fuller’s 43 off 24 balls but became a victim of Sam Curran, and cameos from the lower order couldn’t help much as Hampshire were bowled out for 156 in 18.6 over.
