Team India under Rohit Sharma played the best cricket throughout the group stage. They were the only team to win all nine matches and occupied the top position in the points table. After a thumping victory in the semifinals, India failed when it mattered the most. They lost to Australia by six wickets in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad.
After the match, as expected, the fans and cricket pundits started giving reasons why India lost the match. Some said India’s choosing to play on black soil rather backfired, while some said India did not show any intent in the final.
Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi feels the reason why India lost the final could be “overconfidence“. Talking to Samaa TV, Afridi pointed out that a team can become overconfident after continuously winning matches.
International cricket is all about how to handle pressure. They have an awareness of it. When you keep winning games continuously, overconfidence can creep in, which can prove fatal at times.Afridi said on Samaa TV.

Shahid Afridi said he always wanted to keep Shaheen Afridi away from the captaincy
After the World Cup debacle, Babar Azam resigned from captaincy in all formats, and the responsibility was given to pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi. The young paceman will lead the Men in Green in the T20Is, while Shan Masood will captain the Test side.
As per whispers among the fans, Shahid Afridi played a major role in helping his son-in-law become the captain. Notably, Shaheen married Shahid’s daughter earlier this year.
However, Shahid, on Samaa TV, stated that he had no role to play in the matter and that it was solely the board’s and Chief Selector Mohammad Hafeez‘s decision.
Actually, I've always preferred to keep Shaheen away from the captaincy.
