India is taking on South Africa in the second T20I on June 12, Sunday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. India was asked to bat first and after a poor start, a decent score was added before the powerplay but after it, wickets started falling quickly.
As openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan walked out to bat, the former took a walk back to the hut on the last ball of the first over, scoring just one run, off Kagiso Rabada’s delivery. After the wicket came Shreyas Iyer who had a slow start because his partner Ishan Kishan was playing a quick knock. He scored 34 runs off 21 balls with three sixes and two boundaries, with a strike rate of 161.90.
On one point, a fielder had missed his catch but Rassie van der Dussen made sure to catch the ball when Anrich Nortje was bowling. Nortje hit the deck hard, at around the middle and Kishan pulled this one but was a tad bit late and the ball skied and gone straight down to van der Dussen’s hands at deep square leg.
Shreyas Iyer played a slow but responsible innings when at the other end, India lost the wickets of skipper Rishabh Pant and vice-captain Hardik Pandya. But on the last ball of 14th over off Dwaine Pretorius’ over, a length ball, outside off saw Iyer staying at his crease and attempting to push it on the off side. But the ball had gone off the outside edge and wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen safely caught it.
When Dinesh Karthik went to bat, he made sure not to lose his wicket too and played a crucial knock for the team with his 30 runs off 21 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Harshal Patel had also smashed two boundaries.
