Sport betting apps have received mixed reactions from fans. Though some of these apps are considered skill-based, with fans enjoying making their teams to win prizes, the negative side is the apps’ addictive nature, and that they can lure the users with expensive prizes, regardless of the financial risks. There are many ads during the matches, especially during the Indian Premier League (IPL) about the betting apps where the star players can be seen asking fans to make their teams on these platforms and win money.

That is why a social activist from Bihar, Tammanah Hashmi, accused former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, India captain Rohit Sharma, and Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya of promoting gambling. The activist claimed that these sportspersons are playing with the future of the youths by encouraging gambling via these online games.

They are misleading the youths of the country and forcing them to get involved in gambling. They are luring them with attractive prizes but it can also make a youth become addicted to gambling,” he said.

Tammanah Hashmi understood that some people have won prizes but at the same time, as the games are luring them, they are becoming addicted to gambling. “The cricket and film icons are promoting various gaming shows and encouraging people to make teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Some of them have won the prizes but it also has consequences of people becoming addict of gambling as well,” he added.

This is not the first time Hashmi filed a petition in the court. The hearing of the current case will be on April 22.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is leading the Mumbai Indians and his team will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match. Hardik Pandya captains the Gujarat Titans and they will play their next match against Punjab Kings. Sourav Ganguly is the Director of Cricket of the Delhi Capitals.
