MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma
Days before the start of the highly-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL), pictures of MS Dhoni‘s fit body took the internet by storm. And now, India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma heaped praise on Thala for his fitness.
Fans are speculating that Dhoni will play his last IPL season and will retire after its conclusion. But looking at Dhoni’s fitness, Rohit thinks the former India skipper is fit enough to play for two to three more years.
“I’ve been hearing for the last 2-3 years that this is going to be MS Dhoni’s last season. I think he is fit enough to play a few more seasons,” Rohit said in MI’s pre-season press conference on Wednesday (March 29).
When fans heard Rohit’s comment on Dhoni’s fitness, they started schooling the Indian captain to learn something from Dhoni. Check their reactions below:
MS Dhoni-led CSK will open their campaign vs Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) led by MS Dhoni, will start their campaign against defending champions Gujarat Titans, led by the flamboyant all-rounder Hardik Pandya on March 31, at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the previous season, Dhoni hinted that 2023 will be his final season because he wants to play in front of the Chepauk fans.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Yellow army did not play in Chennai for a couple of years. But now that the cash-rich league will be welcoming the home-and-away format, CSK can now play in front of the roaring Chepauk fans.
Whether Dhoni will continue to play after 2023 will be seen later. But for now, all CSK fans want is to see their Captain Cool donning the yellow jersey again.
Dhoni has been a part of the Chennai-based franchise since the inception of IPL in 2008. Apart from guiding the team to four IPL trophies, nine finals, and eleven playoffs, the 41-year-old has amassed 4978 runs from 234 matches at an average of 39.20, and a strike rate of 135.20. He retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020.
CSK have signed England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes for INR 16.25 crore. If Dhoni retires after this season, then Stokes can be asked to wear the captaincy cap.
But the star English all-rounder is likely to play as a specialist batter at the start of this year’s IPL due to his recurring left-knee injury. Due to this, he may not bowl during matches. As per reports, his scan result on the knee has come back clear but the 31-year-old has taken a cortisone injection which reduces swelling.
