Eleven Somali pirates hijacked a fishing vessel that had 19 Pakistanis as their crew, but were rescued by the Indian Navy.

On 30th January, the Indian Navy announced that they had successfully completed an anti-piracy operation just near the coast of east Somalia. They rescued a fishing vessel, Al Naemi, which was hijacked by 11 Somalian pirates.
The Indian Navy rescued the crew and ship, which included 19 Pakistani nationals. They then released a statement and photos of their operation. One photo included all the pirates and the soldiers, but the photo caught the eyes of cricket fans for a different reason.
One of the pirates was seen wearing the jersey of the Indian Premier League (IPL) side, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Many fans started mocking RCB at the first chance they got after seeing the photo, joking how they failed yet again.

Royal Challenger Bangalore’s history in the IPL
Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the three founding IPL franchises to not win the tournament. Since 2008, they have played in all editions of the IPL, reaching the finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016.
Their best season came in 2011, where they topped the IPL group stage, with 9 wins out of 14. They ended the group stage with 19 points and qualified for the 1st qualifier. Unfortunately they lost that, but won the 2nd qualifier. RCB faced Chennai Super Kings in the finals, but lost by 58 runs.
They once again reached the finals in 2016, with Virat Kohli having his best IPL season scoring 973 runs. They unfortunately lost in the finals yet again, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since then they have failed to reach the finals even once. RCB’s best result since 2016 was in 2022, where they managed to reach the 2nd Qualifier. They lost that match to eventual runners-up, Rajasthan Royals.
