Former India opener Gautam Gambhir made some remarks on ex-India captain MS Dhoni. He observed that Dhoni sacrificed his personal runs for the team and trophies.
Gambhir also opined that if Dhoni wasn’t the captain, he would have scored a lot of runs. However, former India pacer S. Sreesanth disagrees with Gambhir.
Sreesanth pointed out that Dhoni did not sacrifice his wickets and instead worked on team composition so that each player fit in the batting line-up. Sreesanth also stated that for Captain Cool, it was always about more victories and not runs.
“Credit should go to Dhoni, but he didn’t sacrifice his batting position. He worked a way to find out which players would do well for the team in which position and then slot them in those positions accordingly. His captaincy had the ability to bring the best out of his players. He has always thought about the team first,” Sreesanth told Sportskeeda.
Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020. He still plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This year, he led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth trophy in the cash-rich league. The 42-year-old may play in the IPL next year, as he stated, it will depend on his fitness.
