Royal Challengers Bengaluru have failed to make any impact so far in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The team have won only one match out of four, with the three losses being matches where they were dominated.
The only bright side from RCB’s disastrous run is former captain Virat Kohli. The batter has hit 203 runs in 4 innings, with an average of 67.67 and a SR of 140.97. His performances see him holding the Orange Cap as well. Meanwhile, the 2nd highest scorer for RCB is Dinesh Karthik, with only 90 runs in four innings.
Steve Smith, who currently works as an analyst with Star Sports, pointed out how pressurized Kohli is. He was unhappy with the way the RCB middle-order performed, leaving Kohli to do most of the scoring.
Kohli is an incredible player, he has been amazing in this IPL but he needs other batters to stand up with him - at the moment, it's putting a lot of pressure on Virat, he needs help from others.Steve Smith on Star Sports
Most RCB batters have failed to score above 70 runs. Glenn Maxwell, who is regarded as the best hitter of the ball, has managed only 31 runs so far. Rajat Patidar and Cameron Green have also struggled, with only 50 and 63 runs respectively.
Irfan Pathan draws comparison between Virat Kohli and rising star
On 4th April, Shubman Gill smashed 89 off 48 against Punjab Kings, but in a losing cause. His innings saw six boundaries and four sixes, with the remaining runs coming through singles and doubles.
Seeing the innings, Irfan Pathan commented how Gill reminded him of Virat Kohli. He spoke about it on his X account, where he stated how the Gujarat Titans captain tries to play proper cricket shots like Kohli.
Unfortunately, Gill ended up losing the match. Chasing 200, PBKS batters Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma played important innings to cross their team past the finish line.
