The legendary Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill after the star youngster slammed his maiden century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was also the first-ever ton by a GT batsman.

After the match, Gavaskar said it was a dream century from Gill as he did no mistake en route to the three-figure mark. He scored 101 runs off 56 balls, smashing 13 boundaries and a six.

This was a dream innings from Shubman Gill. Honestly, it was a dream century because there was hardly a foot that he put wrong. I don’t remember him playing and missing. I don’t remember him getting hit on the pads, everything was off the middle of the bat,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Just helping it along, using the extra pace of the bowler at time, making the pace himself. He did everything. I have to say if you bat like that, the sky is the limit, the world will be at your feet,” Gavaskar added.

The Punjab-born batter has become the first Indian to slam hundreds across three international formats and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a calendar year. His first century this year was in an ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad.

Against the same team, he slammed his maiden T20I ton in Ahmedabad, then followed it with his maiden Test hundred against Australia at the same venue during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The 23-year-old also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 13-year-old record. He reached his fifty off 22 balls, the fastest in IPL history without smashing a six. Tendulkar recorded the same when he hit a 23-ball fifty against Delhi Daredevils in 2010.
