Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Naveen ul Haq had been celebrating his wickets by lifting his shirt collar. But in the all-important Eliminator against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday (May 24), at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Afghan pacer came up with a new celebration, similar to that of KL Rahul’s one.

After taking MI skipper Rohit Sharma’s wicket, Naveen put his fingers in his ears, to show he is shutting the outside noise. After this, Naveen bagged two more wickets, of Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green who stitched a 66-run stand in just 6.2 overs before they were sent to the dugout in the 11th over.

Naveen celebrated Suryakumar and Green’s wickets in the same fashion which caught the attention of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar was commentating during the match and suggested Naveen celebrate by chucking the hands behind his ears to signal that he is listening to the applause.

“He has had issues with the crowd. You should celebrate by chucking your ears. This is the time he has got a wicket. He has got to listen to the applause,” Gavaskar said on air. “When somebody scored a hundred also, don’t chuck your ears. Listen to the applause, chuck your hand behind the ears, and say ‘Hello, now I can hear you?’ That’s how the celebration should be. That’s old me saying this, by the way,” Gavaskar added.

On May 1, during LSG’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Naveen ul Haq got involved in a heated altercation with Virat Kohli which continued off the field with an ugly war of words between Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir.

After that incident, both Kohli and Naveen took to their respective social media to share cryptic posts. The 23-year-old, on several occasions, shared a few stories whenever RCB played and lost their matches, leaving fans with mixed reactions to his antics. Due to this, crowd across cricket stadiums often chants Virat Kohli’s name when Naveen bowls or when he comes near the boundary ropes.

Talking about the match, Naveen ended his spell after conceding 38 runs for four wickets in four overs. MI still reached a commanding 182/8 in 20 overs but the five-time champions later bundled out LSG for a mere 101 in 16.3 overs courtesy of Akash Madhwal‘s five-wicket haul. Madhwal conceded just five runs in 3.3 overs at an economy of 1.43. MI will face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on Friday (May 26).
