On 23rd March, Kolkata Knight Riders hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad for the third match of the season. After losing 6 wickets in the opening over, Andre Russell came in to bat and scored an incredible 64 off 25, bringing KKR’s score to 208. He also bowled well, picking up 2 wickets in the 2nd innings.

For his performance, Andre Russell was awarded the Player of the Match award. During the match, the commentators discussed how good the all-rounder was and someone credited it to the new KKR mentor, Gautam Gambhir. This enraged Sunil Gavaskar, who started a rant against the notion.

Let's not go ahead of ourselves, he batted well, and it's got nothing to do with anyone coming into there. If he doesn't do well in the next few innings, will you blame Gautam Gambhir? Let's take it a little bit easy.

He further praised the batter for his six-hitting abilities. Gavaskar also criticized the SRH bowling attack for not sticking to their plans. They conceded 208 runs in the first innings, resulting in the first 200+ score of this season.

Sunil Gavaskar left unimpressed by Harshit Rana’s antics

Harshit Rana was in the news for his performance against SRH on 23rd March. He was involved in a small incident in the 2nd innings, where he blew a kiss to Mayank Agarwal after picking up his wicket to send him off. This did not impress Gavaskar, who wanted the player to celebrate with his team.

He should not have done that. Did the batsman do anything to him when he was hitting him for sixes? Cricket can be played without these antics. It's the age of television. I understand that.

The pacer was later fined by the IPL for his actions.  Rana was  involved in a match-winning final over, where he defended 13 runs. He also got the wickets of Heinrich Klassen and Shahbaz Ahmed to win the match.
