Film superstar Rajinikanth will be the “distinguished guest” for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, starting October 5. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a picture of Rajinikanth receiving the Golden Ticket from BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

On September 19, BCCI shared the post to announce the news. “The Phenomenon Beyond Cinema! The BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Shri @rajinikanth, the true embodiment of charisma and cinematic brilliance. The legendary actor has left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions, transcending language and culture,” it said.

What are Golden Tickets?

The BCCI uses the Golden Ticket for promotional purposes during the important tournaments it is hosting. The recipients receive special treatment during the matches of the tournament and can watch any matches in the stadium. Before Rajinikanth, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan and the great Sachin Tendulkar were presented with the Golden Ticket by Jay Shah.

The legendary Sunil Gavaskar requested the BCCI to present the Golden Ticket to ISRO chief S. Somnath under whom India successfully landed on the south pole of the moon. Gavaskar also wants to see the World Cup-winning captains, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni receiving the tickets.

The ODI World Cup will start in India on October 5 and the final will be played on November 19. A total of 10 teams will lock horns as per the round-robin format. England and New Zealand will kickstart the tournament in Ahmedabad.
