Dhruv Jurel became the 312th player to receive an Indian cap. He had come in place of KS Bharat, who was underperforming in the series. Being a part of the U19 Indian team of the 2020 U19 World Cup, he came into limelight after his performances in the 2023 IPL

What many people don’t know about him, is that his father refused to let him follow his passion of cricket. His father, Nem Singh Jurel, was a veteran who was in the 1999 Kargil War. Growing up, Jurel tried convincing his father to let him play cricket, but his father wanted him to do a government job instead.

Jurel somehow convinced his father to buy him a kashmir willow bat, but never a kit. When he turned 14, he was sure that he wanted to pursue the sport as a career, but once again his father asked him to focus on his studies.

Heartbroken, he locked himself in the washroom and cried, threatening to run away if he didn’t get his cricket kit. His mother, unable to see her son this sad, gave her gold necklace to her husband and asked him to sell it to buy a cricket kit. Jurel stated how excited he was getting the cricket kit, but now knows the sacrifices they made.

Ashwin has been playing for a long time. But, I was very impressed with the way Dhruv Jurel batted. He took his time, he looked assured, he seems to trust his defense, he is not playing with hard hands and he is allowing the ball to come to him,

India have had a terrible day, losing their last five wickets for just 119 runs. Ben Duckett punished the Indian bowlers right away, scoring a century in just 88 balls, while R. Ashwin did get his 500th Test wicket. England finished the day with 207/2, with Duckett and Joe Root in the middle.
