“One hell of a captain”- England’s World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan set to call time on career

Eoin Morgan
On Tuesday, England’s World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan will step down from captaincy. He will call time as England’s captain at the Lords’ where, three years ago in 2019, he created history by becoming England’s first captain to lead the team into winning the World Cup.
The 35-year-old is struggling with his form and fitness which considered as the reason for his retirement. He has said often that he would stand aside if he felt he no longer is contributing his services to the team. In his last 48 innings, he has only one half-century and the last two ended in ducks against Netherlands.
Morgan took charge of the team on the eve of 2015 World Cup. England went on to win 16 of their 20 bilateral ODI series and rose to No. 1 in the rankings. Jos Buttler will most likely be made the next captain.
“He obviously feels like he’s done with international cricket,” Moeen Ali. “But the team for him still comes first, which just shows how unselfish he is. He’s done a remarkable job- the best we’ve ever had.
“It is and it isn’t [a surprise] at the same time. It is because of the T20 World Cup not being too far away and it’s strange to comprehend the side without him at the moment. Obviously things move on and you kind of get used to it, but it is sad.
“And I’m not surprised at the same time because he’s a very selfless person and he’s thinking about the team more that anything. We’ve been so strong over the years and he probably himself feels like his time is done and he’s given enough time for Jos or whoever the captain is going to be to embed his way.”
