The sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has picked up its pace as fans are getting to witness nail-biting contests one after the other. After the thrilling contest between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), the match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) also went down the wire.
As Punjab posted 153/8 in their designated 20 overs, Gujarat scored 154/4 with one ball to spare and took the game home by six wickets. But it was not an easily served-up win for GT. Although the defending champions dominated the proceedings for the most part of the match, Sam Curran made things interesting by dismissing Shubman Gill in the last over.
Curran also bowled a couple of good yorkers to keep David Miller and Rahul Tweatia in check and his team alive in the contest. However, Tewatia held his nerves and backed himself to play a paddle scoop on the penultimate delivery of the match and won it for GT.
With fans getting to witness a thrilling contest for the fifth day in a row, Twitter was filled with reactions. There were praiseworthy tweets for Rahul Tewatia as well.
Coming to GT’s batting, Shubman Gill was the star for the defending champions as the opening batter scored a 49-ball 67 and helped his team chase a tricky total on a sluggish wicket. Gill stayed almost till the end and saw GT home. The batter played some audacious shots during his stay to send fans in awe of his batting.
“Good grief!” exclaimed Ian Bishop on air for Gill’s one of the shots.
