Tilak Varma got his call from the Indian selectors to join the Men in Blue for the five-match T20I series against West Indies. He had a dream debut, for he was the high scorer in the match, in both the T20Is he played.

In the first T20I, while chasing 150, Varma scored 39 runs from 22 balls at a strike rate of 177.27. In the second T20I, he slammed his maiden half-century, scoring 51 runs from 41 balls. He played those matches when all the batters fumbled badly, leading to India’s back-to-back defeats by four runs and two wickets respectively.

Varma’s childhood coach, Salam Bayash recalled how he fulfilled his dream of meeting his idol Sachin Tendulkar through Varma. Bayash said Tendulkar likes Varma very much and knows a lot about him and his student.

Sachin sir likes him very much,” Bayash told News18. “Tilak told him that my teacher is a very big fan of yours. So, Sachin sir replied, ‘I know everything about you and your coach.” The coach then added that Tendulkar praised him for preparing and nurturing young talent like Varma.
