‘Make sure that you win’ – Tom Cooper’s message to Babar Azam after Netherlands upset South Africa

Netherlands batter Tom Cooper sent a special message to Pakistani skipper Babar Azam as he walked off the ground after his side handed a massive upset to South Africa at the ongoing T20 World Cup on Sunday (November 6). The defeat to the Proteas threw them out of the equation for the semifinals.
As a result, Team India officially qualified and the second position was wide open for both to grab. The winner of Bangladesh vs Pakistan would head the next round of the event. However, there was one more interesting aspect that was joint with the clash.
It was Dutch’s self-interest that a Pakistan victory would help them end the event in fourth position, meaning they might get a direct qualification into the next edition of the tournament. Hence, Tom Cooper asked Babar Azam to return the favour by winning the match and letting the Netherlands finish in fourth position. He said: “Make sure that you WIN so we finish 4th.“
Netherlands finish at fourth position

The Netherlands shocked the cricket world when they beat mighty South Africa by 13 runs. After scoring 158 runs, they bowled and fielded brilliantly to restrict the strong batting unit of the Proteas. Colin Ackermann was adjudged the player of the match for his vital knock of 41 off just 26 deliveries and giving away just 16 runs in 3 overs.
The victory of the Dutch team helped Pakistan qualify as they beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets to confirm a berth in the semifinals. This also meant that the Netherlands finished in fourth position, above Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. In the end, it was a great deal for both Pakistan and the Netherlands.
As Team India are inching towards a victory in their ongoing match against Zimbabwe at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Pakistan are likely to finish in second position. That means they will play Group 1 toppers which are none other than Kane Williamson‘s New Zealand.
