Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets

Today’s Sunday is lucky for Babar Azam and Co. as despite losing hope, Netherland’s upsetting South Africa rejuvenated it again. The Men in Blue needed to outclass Bangladesh to book a spot in the semi-final berth, which they did. They chased down Bangladesh’s small target of 128 in 18.1 overs to win the match by five wickets on November 6 at the Adelaide Oval, to become the fourth team to qualify for the semi-final

Shaheen Shah Afridi was the man behind Pakistan’s victory. Despite his lackluster show in the other Super 12 matches- as he is making his comeback after a knee injury- he scalped three wickets in a crucial match against South Africa and went on to complete his four-wicket haul against Bangladesh. “It’s not easy to come back after injury and bowl I am just trying to bowl my best,” Player of the Match Shaheen said after the match after his 4-22.

The latter part of the job was done by the batters. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam stitched a 57-run partnership for the opening stand, to give their team a winning start in their run-chase.

After the dismissal of this duo, Mohammad Haris handled the reign with his quickfire of an 18-ball 31 runs, studded with 1 four and two sixes. Shan Masood remained unbeaten with his 14-ball 24 runs to steer his team to a five-wicket win over the Bangladeshis.

Men in Green started the Super 12s with two back-to-back defeats (against India and Zimbabwe). The road to the semi-final for Pakistan started when South Africa faced a humiliating 13-run defeat from the Netherlands at Adelaide today, which also helped India automatically qualify for the semi-final. The four teams that have through the desired stage are- India, Pakistan, England, and New Zealand.

If India defeat Zimbabwe, then the former will be locking horns against England in the second semi-final on Thursday, at the Adelaide Oval. Pakistan will be facing New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday at the SCG in Sydney. If Zimbabwe upset India, then England will be squaring off against Pakistan on Thursday, and India will face New Zealand on Wednesday.
