Shimron Hetmyer and skipper Sanju Samson played clutch innings to help Rajasthan Royals (RR) thrash Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (April 16). Both of them scored their respective half-centuries while chasing a 178-run target.

Chasing the target, RR faltered at the first courtesy of Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami, both of whom dismissed the two dangerous openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler respectively. Devdutt Padikkal, who was the Impact Player, rather played slowly, scoring 26 runs from 25 balls with two four and the same number of sixes. Riyan Parag again flopped with the bat.

But skipper Sanju Samson kept his cool and played a scintillating innings, scoring 60 runs from 32 balls with three fours and six maximums. His knock helped RR get control over the momentum but RR did not heave a sigh of relief that time.

And to add more twist to the match, Noor Ahmed dismissed the skipper in the 15th over. RR were reeling at 114 for the loss of five wickets. The RR fans might have lost hope.

But Shimron Hetmyer was still at the crease and did what he is known for- giving the finishing touches to win the match for the team. Hetmyer remained not out on 56 runs from just 26 balls. His knock was laced with two boundaries and give maximums and he batted at an incredible strike rate of 215.38. Dhruv Jurel also added crucial 18 runs from 10 balls, while Ravichandran Ashwin quickly smashed a six and a four after entering the field.
