England Test skipper Ben Stokes entered the mini-auction at a base price of INR 2 crore. He last entered the IPL auction in 2017 when he provided his services to the Rising Pune Supergiants for INR 14.50 crore. He was then signed by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 12.50 crore.

In the ongoing auction, at first, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals fought for him before Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants’ bidding war pushed it to INR 7 crore. Then entered the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and upstaged LSG by placing 16.25 crore and securing the star all-rounder. Stokes will don the Yellow jersey in the Indian Premier League 2023.

Stokes is one of those decorated all-rounders every team would want to have. The 31-year-old played a match-winning knock in the T20 World Cup in the 2022 final, helping the Jos Buttler-led team to list the coveted by beating Pakistan. Not to forget his match-winning knock in the ICC ODI World Cup in 2015 as well. He is a fighter.

The IPL mini-auction for 2023 is taking place in Kochi (on Friday, December 23). England star all-rounder Sam Curran became the costliest player when Punjab Kings bought him for INR 18.50 crore.
