Axar Patel has been in decent form in recent times, especially with the bat. Delhi Capitals are languishing at the bottom of the points table with three defeats from the same number of matches they have played so far.

When the batters from the Capitals faltered badly, David Warner and Patel tried rescuing; though Warner, in all the matches played sluggish innings. Fans are not happy with Warner at all and some legends of the game even asked him to not play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Today also Warner scored another slow half-century and finished his innings at 51 off 47 balls, which had six boundaries. But the batter whose performance stood out for the Capitals was Axar Patel. When Prithvi Shaw, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, and Lalit Yadav faltered against Mumbai Indians bowlers, Axar handled the responsibility to take the team to a competitive total of 172 on Tuesday (April 11) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Patel raced to his half-century and exited the field after scoring 54 runs from just 25 balls. His knock had four boundaries and five sixes and the brilliant thing was his strike rate- 216. Jason Behrendorff was able to get rid of this big fish in the penultimate over. Had Patel remained unbeaten, Delhi might have reached 200. Several times when Delhi were on a cusp of collapse, the DC vice-captain tried to stabilize the innings.

As the two run-scorers for the team, Patel and Warner were sent into packing by Behrendorff in the same over, Mumbai quickly dismissed the rest of the batters and restricted the home team to 172 in 19.4 overs. Among the Mumbai bowlers, Behrendorff and Piyush Chawla scalped three wickets each, Riley Meredith got two, while Hrithik Shokeen could get one. Now all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav‘s knocks.
