New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium was established in 1883 and is the home ground of the Delhi Ranji team and the Delhi Capitals of the Indians Premier League (IPL). Located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, this is the second oldest functional stadium in India after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The stadium is owned by Delhi and District Cricket Association and has a capacity of 41,842. Formerly known as the Feroz Shah Kotla, it was renamed in 2019 after former DDCA President and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after his death.

The first-ever Test match at this venue was played in 1948 between the hosts and West Indies. But it faced a ban of 12 months by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2009 for its unfit conditions when India locked horns with Sri Lanka in an ODI match. However, the match between the two countries was called off.

The stadium was criticized heavily due to smog in 2017 during a match between India and Sri Lanka. Players from Sri Lanka wore anti-pollution masks, and several of them had vomited regularly due to the severe pollution. Even India pacer Mohammed Shami was seen vomiting on the field.

Delhi Capitals (previously Delhi Daredevils) played their home matches here. They have scored the highest innings total (231) against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011, plus the lowest total of 66 runs also scored by the Delhi team.

Virender Sehwag is the leading run-scorer here (933), while Amit Mishra scalped the most wickets (58). Chris Gayle had slammed 128 (highest individual total) and the record for best bowling figures goes to Lasith Malinga (5/13) who played for the Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Capitals was led by Rishabh Pant in the 2022 season but as he got injured in a car crash last December, veteran opener David Warner was handed the leadership job for this season. Delhi will open their campaign against Lucknow Supergiants on Saturday (April 1) at the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow. But the stadium will stage its first IPL 2023 match when the home team will face defending champions Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, on Tuesday (April 4).

But after the Ind vs Pak match of the 2016 Asia Cup, she rather got glued to the TV screen. That year she watched the major cricket tournaments, WWE matches, and the Olympics (especially Usain Bolt's races). After reading about the big names in tennis and becoming an ardent follower, she dreams of visiting Wimbledon one day.
